Vaginal Speculum Mould-Vaginal Speculum Use Guide

  • May 18, 2020 4:44 AM EDT

Find a time and a quiet place to leave you alone. Try to choose a space that makes you feel relaxed. Your bedroom is usually a comfortable place for dilation therapy. Before you begin, relax your pelvic floor muscles and take a deep breath.

    First, enter a comfortable position:

Lie down with your feet flat on the bed or sofa with your knees slightly bent.

Open your legs so that they are as wide as your shoulders. If you find this to be a problem, you can put the pillow under your knees for support.

Make sure you can easily touch the opening of the vagina with your hands. If necessary, use a hand mirror to view the opening of the vagina.

Find your pelvic floor muscles (muscles that support reproductive organs) and perform Kegel exercises. Kegel exercises can help you insert the dilator more easily.

    Insert a Vaginal Speculum

Inserting a Vaginal Speculum is simple. Performing the operation slowly and slowly will not cause any pain. This process takes about 10-15 minutes.

Start with the smallest expander in the kit. Apply lubricant to the dilator and vaginal opening. Use water-based lubricants because it can cause irritation. Avoid using oils and silicone-based lubricants because they are not easy to wash off the dilator.

To insert the dilator into the vagina, perform the following steps:

Use gentle pressure to slowly insert the rounded end of the dilator into the vagina. Always insert it straight or slightly downward in the direction of the spine (back), just like inserting a tampon.

Continue to insert the dilator slowly until you feel slight discomfort or muscle tension, then stop. The dilator should be snug but not painful. If you feel pain, do not stop hard. If you do not have any pressure during insertion, you may need to use a larger expander.

If it is still difficult to insert the dilator after the Kegel exercise, try taking a deep breath. Then, refocus on relaxing the pelvic floor muscles and try to insert the dilator a little more.

If you cannot fully insert the dilator, don't worry. Over time, you may be able to take the expander one step further. If you still cannot insert the dilator, please contact your healthcare provider.

After the dilator is installed in place, follow steps 5 and 6 for 5 to 10 minutes. If needed during this process, more lubricant can be added.

Gently push the dilator in and out to lengthen the vagina.

Gently rotate the dilator into a large circle to stretch the width of the vagina. Repeat this step at the back, middle and opening of the vagina.

Some women find it helpful to work with more than one expander. For example, some women may use a larger dilator at the opening of the vagina and a smaller one inside the vagina until they can fully use the next size dilator.

After completing steps 1 to 6, remove the dilator.

Wash the dilator with hot soapy water. Then dry it with a clean towel or paper towel. Follow the instructions in the kit to store.

    After using the Vaginal Speculum

You may have a small amount of vaginal bleeding when using the dilator or after using it. This is normal. After the expansion agent treatment, you may need to wear underwear lining. If you bleed too much, for example, it will absorb sanitary napkins (pads), or if the bleeding lasts longer than 1 day, please call your healthcare provider.

If you have frequent urinary tract infections (UTI), you may have to urinate (piss) after using the dilator.

If you have any questions or problems, please contact your healthcare provider at the next appointment.

    Increase your dilator size

The purpose of Vaginal Speculum treatment is to slowly increase the size of the dilator. When you can fully insert a dilator of one size into the vagina without any discomfort, you should start using a dilator of another size. The goal is to insert the largest size dilator without discomfort if possible. Increasing the size over time will help you perform a more comfortable pelvic exam, vaginal sex, or both.

When to practice Vaginal Speculum therapy

You should perform dilator therapy 3-4 times a week, but not for more than 2 consecutive days. Continuous dilator therapy for several days may cause pain or irritation. When you are not using a Vaginal Speculum, you should try Kegel exercises.
